Paula Nascimento

The architect and curator Paula Nascimento graduated from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London and from London Southbank University. She curated the urban installation The Best Fucking Life (Luanda, 2015) and the contemporary art exhibition Being and Becoming: Complexities of the African Identity (Pretoria, 2016). She also co-curated the Beyond Entropy Angola project (Angolan Pavilion, 13th Architecture Biennale, Venice, 2012); Luanda, Encyclopaedic City (Angolan Pavilion, 55th International Art Exhibition, Venice Biennale, 2013); Ilha de São Jorge (14th Architecture Biennale, Venice, 2014); and From Hands to Mind (Design after Design – XXI Milan Triennale, 2016). Nascimento is a co-founder of Beyond Entropy Africa – a research studio focusing on architecture, urban planning, visual arts and geopolitics – and a founding member of the Pés Descalços (Barefoot) cultural collective. She was awarded the Golden Lion for Best National Participation at the 2013 Venice Biennale, presented with a Special Award in 2015 by the organisers of the arcVision Prize WE-Women for Expo, and has twice won Angola’s 35º Award for Arts and Culture (2013 and 2016).
