Design statement

The exhibition design by Wolff Architects is a playful distortion of the rational gallery space within the Architekturmuseum der TU München at the Pinakothek der Moderne. It is an experiment in geometry, colours and layers of space which uses cut-outs, folded planes and gradations of light as its means of expression. The design evolved out of an intense process of modelmaking that played with the intersections of circles, folds and overlaps. The result is a constellation of sculptural walls throughout the exhibition. One concern that motivated the overall design was to slow down the visitor’s experience of the exhibition. For this reason, Wolff provided seating and reading spaces looking out into the park.
